La actriz Marlane Barnes interpreta al personaje de Maggie, un miembro del Coven Irlandés en la saga Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2, la cual llega a los cines el 16 de noviembre del 2012. Ella asistió a la premier de The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parte 1 en Los Ángeles. Hablamos con ella hace poco y acá les traemos la entrevista.
- ¿Estabas familiarizada con la saga Twilight antes de conseguir el papel? ¿Cómo fue para ti, como actriz, entrar en la última película de la saga?
En realidad no estaba familiarizada con ella! Yo siempre soy la última persona en saber acerca de las cosas en la cultura pop. Pero antes de audicionar, leí las sinopsis en sitios fans y vi las dos primeras películas para conocer un poco la historia. Cuando me dieron el papel en realidad, me asombré. Quiero decir, es una franquicia tan grande y la base de fans está tan involucrada en ello que me preocupé al principio, no sabía si yo era lo que en realidad el mundo estaba esperando! Pero, te das cuenta de que sólo debes confiar en el equipo de producción, en ti mismo y debes dar lo mejor de ti.
- ¿Cómo fue trabajar con el director, Bill Condon en Amanecer?
Bill es un hombre muy dulce, inteligente y considerado. Fue un placer trabajar con él, yo realmente sentía como si él estuviese invertido en la experiencia de cada uno de nosotros en la película. Creó un ambiente de colaboración en el set, lo cual era genial teniendo en cuenta que muchos de nosotros eramos nuevos en la franquicia. También me gustó la dirección que tomó en la primera parte, así que estoy muy emocionada de ver la segunda parte!.
- ¿Qué puedes decirnos acerca de los vampiros del coven irlandés, específicamente algo sobre tu personaje, Maggie?
El coven irlandés se ha visto y vivido mucho. La literatura se dirige a los irlandeses como unas personas las cuales tienen una enorme historia, opresión y sufrimiento que soportar. Ellos viene de grandes familias, así que elegí que Maggie viniera de una gran familia. Aunque ella no se acuerda mucho de eso, ella tiene una impresión duradera y es algo por lo que vale la pena luchar. Tenía muy claro que ella estaría comprometida a ayudar a que los Cullen permanecieran juntos y a la vez debía estar muy suspicaz de cualquier oferta de paz de parte de los Volturi. Ella es la vampira más nueva a diferencia de los vampiros Siobahn y Liam. Ellos habían visto y habían pasado por tantas cosas durante todos esos años como todo par de vampiros. El coven irlandés es sin duda un grupo valiente y decidido - ellos van, hacen lo que tienen que hacer y luego se van!.
- ¿ Recién te integras a redes sociales como parte de la promoción de Amanecer, o ya estas en los medios sociales desde hace algún tiempo? ¿Te gustan las redes sociales como una herramienta para llegar a tu público?
De hecho, me cree un Twitter hace unos años, antes de que Summit publicará la información de los personajes no lo usaba mucho. Ahora, es como una manera fácil y personal para estar conectar con todos, realmente lo acepto. Pero, todavía estoy aprendiendo como hacer un buen tweet!.
- ¿Te gustó la experiencia de estar en la alfombra roja promocionando Amanecer - Parte 1?
Lo disfruté! Debido a que era la primera vez que estaba en una alfombra roja, estaba tan emocionada. Me quedé sorprendida por la cantidad de decisiones que tuve que tomar. Una vez que estuve allí, sentí una conexión instantánea con los fans y especialmente con los entrevistadores de los sitios de fans. Un par de ellas eran incluso los premios sitios de fans que había consultado para aprender acerca de la saga, como Twilight Lexicon. Tengo que tener mi propio y pequeño "Oh bueno, ustedes son geniales!" momento.
- ¿Cuales son tus próximos proyectos?
Tengo una película independiente que va a rodarse este verano llamada "Stuff it". Se trata de una comedia de horror sobre un muchacho llamado Wally, que comienza a dedicarse a la taxidermia en todo un pueblo, porque él piensa que su difunto padre quiere que él haga eso. Yo interpreto a su prometida, Mattie, quien tiene grandes sueños y no tiene idea de lo que está pasando! De hecho, estoy trabajando en un libro para jóvenes y adultos sobre un historia sobrenatural que es mía, basada en una obra de teatro que escribí en la escuela de postgrado. Se trata de una chica de lrlanda del quinto siglo. El hecho de que yo interpretara a un vampiro irlandés después de haber pasado ya mucho tiempo aprendiendo sobre la cultura fue bastante sorprendente! Por no hablar de que la familia de mi novio es de Eniskillen, Irlanda. Creo que Irlanda y yo todavía no hemos terminado!.
- Tuviste la oportunidad de trabajar con Robert Pattinson durante el rodaje, ¿Cuáles son tus impresiones acerca de él?
Todos estuvimos mucho tiempo compartiendo durante el rodaje. Él es un tipo muy dulce, serio y que tiene muchos intereses. Quería que cada uno de nosotros la pasáramos bien, él y Kristen se empeñaron en conseguir un buen lugar para hacer la fiesta de despedida con todo el equipo en Baton Rouge, y para todos los lugareños. Creo que esto dice mucho de su compañerismo y gratitud, es todo el trabajo que va detrás de las escenas. Yo estaba muy contenta de haberlos conocidos (A Rob y a Kris).

Actress Marlane Barnes plays the character of Maggie, a member of the Irish Coven in the The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, arriving in theaters on November 16th, 2012. She attended the Red Carpet premiere in Los Angeles for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1. We caught up with her recently for this interview
- Were you familiar with the Twilight series before you got the part? How was it for you, as an actor, to come into the last movie of the Twilight series?
I actually was not! I’m always the last person to know about things in pop culture. But, before I auditioned, I read synopses on fan sites and watched the first two movies to get to know the world. When I was actually cast, I was floored. I mean, it’s such a huge franchise and the fan base is so involved that I did worry at first that I wouldn’t be what everyone was hoping for! But, then you just have to trust the production team and yourself and do your best.
- What was it like working with the director, Bill Condon on Breaking Dawn?
Bill is a very sweet, intelligent, and considerate man. He was great to work with, because I really felt like he was invested in everyone’s experience and input on the film. He created a collaborative environment on set, which was great considering how many of us were new to the franchise. I also loved the direction that he took Part One, so I am very excited to see Part Two!
- What can you tell us about the Irish coven vampires, especially your character Maggie?
The Irish coven has seen and experienced a lot. Literature speaks to the Irish as a people who have a huge history of enduring and suffering oppression. They are also big on family, so I chose that Maggie had once come from a big family. Even though she doesn’t remember a lot of it, she has a lasting impression that it is something worth fighting for. So, I felt very strongly that she would be committed to helping the Cullen’s stay together and be very suspicious of any peace offering from the Volturi. I also felt that she was newer to being a vampire than Siobahn and Liam. They had seen and been through even more as a pair. The Irish coven is definitely a brave and resolute group – they do what they came to do and then they make their exit!
- Did you start your social media account as part of the Breaking Dawn promotion or have you been doing social media for a while? Do you like social media as a tool to reach your audience?
I actually got my name on Twitter a few years ago, before Summit released the info I had never really used it much. Now, it’s such an easy and personal way to connect with everyone- I have really embraced it. But, I am still learning about what makes a good tweet!
- Did you enjoy the Red Carpet experience for Breaking Dawn Part 1?
I did! Because it was my first red carpet, I was anxious about everything coming together. I was amazed at the number of choices I had to make. Once I was there, I felt an instant connection with the fans and especially the interviewers who were from fan sites. A couple of them were even from the very first fan sites I had looked at to learn about the series, like Twilight Lexicon. I got to have my own little “Oh hey, you guys are great!” moment.
- What are your upcoming projects?
I have an independent feature shooting this summer called “Stuff It”. It’s a horror-comedy about a boy named Wally who begins to taxidermy an entire town, because he thinks his dead father wants him to. I play his fiancée, Mattie, who has big dreams of her own and has no idea what is going on! I am actually also working on a young adult supernatural historical fiction book of my own, based on a play I wrote in graduate school. It’s about a girl in 5th century Ireland. The fact that I was cast as an Irish vampire after having already spent a lot of time learning about the culture was pretty amazing! Not to mention that my boyfriend’s family is from Eniskillen, Ireland. I think Ireland and I are not finished yet!
- Did you have a chance to work with Rob Pattinson during filming? What were your impressions of him?
We all spent a lot of time around one another for this shoot. Both onset and off I really got the impression that he is a very sweet, earnest guy who has a lot of interests. He also wants everyone to have a good time! He and Kristen both made it a point to go to the crew wrap party in Baton Rouge, for all the locals who wouldn’t be moving on to Vancouver. I think that says a lot about their team spirit and gratitude for all the work that goes on behind the scenes. I was really glad to have met both of them.
